L’Oreal operates legacy applications developed on
the IBM iSeries that have been migrated to HP-UX
running on the Oracle database.
Infinite iSeries from INFINITE Corporation has migrated
thousands of AS/400-based RPG programs running under
the proprietary DB2/400 Database to HP-UX running
the Oracle Database. There were many reasons for the
decision of L’Oreal to migrate, but among them was
the ability to have web-based fast access to
technological design changes for products to be
manufactured via the flexible, fast and web-based
environment.
The migrated system delivers hundreds of predefined
Web reports that help the scheduling of production
meet both financial goals and client commitments.
Real time access via the web for data to clients,
engineers and financial staff were crucial elements
in the decision to use web-based technology. The
infinite iSeries suite provided the necessary engine
to keep the financial system that worked and to
deploy it to the web. Fast.
The Web-based architecture lends itself to quick and
easy deployment. Once a project has been built, it
can be rolled out quickly to users. There is no
software to install or download on client machines.
Users simply need to have Internet access and they
can immediately use the web-based technology to make
better-informed decisions. Project maintenance and
administration is centralized, which makes it easy
to upgrade or make enhancements to a web project.
According to the lead systems analyst, users will
have more choices on how to create and format
user-friendly reports, screens and other
information.
